Conservatory air conditioning installation for year-round room comfort

Conservatories are not standard rooms. We size them around glazing, roof type, sun exposure and winter heat loss so the system is not underpowered or noisy.

Overview

Practical conservatory air conditioning installation, specified around the room.

A conservatory can behave like two rooms in one: too bright and hot in summer, then difficult to warm evenly in winter. Portable units rarely solve that because the heat gain through glass is too high and the hose route is inefficient.

We install fixed split AC for conservatories, orangeries and glazed extensions, including dwarf-wall conservatories, full-height glass rooms and open-plan spaces linked to kitchens or living rooms.

The quote checks roof material, blinds, glazing, aspect, wall space, outdoor position, drainage and whether the room is used as a dining room, office, playroom or second lounge.

Specification

The details that decide whether the installation works properly.

Solar gain

Glass and polycarbonate roofs can add far more heat than the floor area suggests. Output is checked around the hottest part of the day, not just the room size.

Roof and wall options

Many conservatories have limited high wall space. Floor units, side-wall positions or carefully placed wall units may work better than a default high-wall unit.

Heating mode use

If winter comfort matters, we check heat loss through glass and roof panels so the AC heating mode is realistic for how the room is used.

Outdoor-unit position

The external unit needs airflow, service access and a tidy pipe route without turning the patio, side path or garden wall into an eyesore.

Typical jobs

Common installation patterns we plan for.

These are typology notes rather than claimed job records: they show the kind of practical thinking used before we recommend a system.

South-facing glass conservatory

Usually needs a higher-output unit, careful airflow and customer expectations set around blinds and roof type. A 5kW class route is common where heat gain is heavy.

Orangery used as a dining room

Often benefits from a neater designer wall unit or concealed route if the room has a more finished interior. Sound and appearance matter as much as output.

Conservatory linked to open-plan kitchen

The system may need to support both spaces or be positioned to avoid one room fighting the other. This is quoted differently from a closed conservatory.

Quote guidance

What decides whether the fixed quote can proceed.

The quote route starts with postcode coverage, then checks the room, access, outdoor-unit position, electrics and installation route. Straightforward single-split systems can go through the fixed-price builder; complex rooms, commercial spaces and multi-room work may need a survey before the final scope is confirmed.

  • Roof type, glazing area, blinds and room aspect.
  • Whether the conservatory is closed off or open to another room.
  • Wall space for the indoor unit and whether a floor unit is better.
  • Output requirement, often higher than bedrooms or standard rooms.
  • Outdoor-unit route, patio finish and condensate drainage.

Benefits

What customers usually want from this installation.

Reliable cooling

Bring the room back under control during warm weather, busy trading periods or high internal heat loads.

AC heating mode

Use the same fixed AC system for useful air-to-air heating when the weather turns colder. We do not install wet central-heating systems.

Neat installation

Plan the indoor unit, outdoor unit, pipe route and condensate route before installation starts.

Long-term efficiency

Choose inverter technology, good controls and routine maintenance to keep performance strong.

FAQs

Questions customers ask before they book.

What size AC does a conservatory need?

It depends on the glazing, roof, blinds, aspect and whether the room opens into the house. Many conservatories need more output than a normal room of the same floor area, which is why we do not quote them as standard bedrooms.

Can AC make a conservatory usable in winter?

Yes, if the system is correctly sized and the room is not losing heat faster than the unit can supply air-to-air heating. Roof and glazing quality make a big difference.

Where does the indoor unit go in a conservatory?

It depends on wall height, furniture, doors and airflow. A high-wall unit is common, but floor-mounted systems can be better where the conservatory has dwarf walls or awkward roof lines.

How much does conservatory air conditioning installation usually cost?

The guide price depends on room size, output, pipe route, outdoor-unit position, electrics and finish. A straightforward bedroom or standard room install usually starts from GBP 1,950, conservatories and larger open-plan rooms usually start from GBP 2,450, and two-room multi-split work usually starts from GBP 3,800.

Do you install wet heat pump systems?

No. We install fixed air conditioning systems. Many AC units can provide useful air-to-air heating mode from the indoor unit, but we do not install wet central-heating heat pumps, radiators, cylinders or underfloor heating systems.
