Home air conditioning

Domestic air conditioning installation for bedrooms, lofts and living spaces

Home AC should feel quiet, tidy and easy to use. We specify fixed systems around the room that actually needs comfort, not a generic whole-house promise.

Overview

Practical domestic air conditioning installation, specified around the room.

Most domestic enquiries begin with one uncomfortable room: a bedroom that stays warm at night, a loft room that traps heat, a conservatory that swings between too hot and too cold, or a home office that is hard to work in.

Domestic work needs a different tone from commercial AC. The unit must suit the room visually, run quietly, avoid draughts, respect neighbours and leave the property looking properly finished.

We check the room size, sun exposure, wall options, outdoor position, pipe route and whether one room or several rooms should be planned together. If a second room is likely later, we discuss that before the first unit goes in.

Specification

The details that decide whether the installation works properly.

Night-time sound

For bedrooms and nurseries, we prioritise low indoor sound, sensible outdoor placement and airflow that does not pass straight across the bed.

Room appearance

Wall units, designer units, floor units and concealed options all have different visual impact. The right choice depends on the room, not just the price.

Outdoor siting

A domestic condenser must be placed where it can breathe, drain, be serviced and avoid unnecessary boundary noise. Side returns and rear walls are often useful but still need checking.

Future rooms

If the home may later need AC in two or three rooms, a multi-split route can be planned from the start instead of adding outdoor units one by one.

Typical jobs

Common installation patterns we plan for.

These are typology notes rather than claimed job records: they show the kind of practical thinking used before we recommend a system.

Main bedroom in a semi-detached house

Usually a quiet wall-mounted unit with a short pipe route to a side or rear outdoor position. The survey checks bed position, wardrobes, eaves and neighbour-facing walls.

Loft bedroom or home office

Loft rooms need careful airflow because sloping ceilings and roof heat can make normal wall positions ineffective. Floor-mounted units can work well where wall space is limited.

Conservatory or garden room

These rooms often need a higher output than their floor area suggests. We check glazing, roof type, insulation and whether heating mode matters in winter.

Quote guidance

What decides whether the fixed quote can proceed.

The quote route starts with postcode coverage, then checks the room, access, outdoor-unit position, electrics and installation route. Straightforward single-split systems can go through the fixed-price builder; complex rooms, commercial spaces and multi-room work may need a survey before the final scope is confirmed.

  • Room type and output, especially bedrooms versus conservatories.
  • Whether a standard wall unit, designer unit or floor unit suits the room.
  • Outdoor-unit position, neighbour sensitivity and pipe length.
  • Whether the home needs one room now or a planned multi-room route.
  • Electrical supply and whether condensate can drain naturally.

Benefits

What customers usually want from this installation.

Reliable cooling

Bring the room back under control during warm weather, busy trading periods or high internal heat loads.

AC heating mode

Use the same fixed AC system for useful air-to-air heating when the weather turns colder. We do not install wet central-heating systems.

Neat installation

Plan the indoor unit, outdoor unit, pipe route and condensate route before installation starts.

Long-term efficiency

Choose inverter technology, good controls and routine maintenance to keep performance strong.

FAQs

Questions customers ask before they book.

Is fixed AC better than a portable air conditioner at home?

Yes for most permanent rooms. A fixed split system is quieter, more powerful, neater and more efficient than a portable unit, and it removes heat outside rather than pushing it through a window hose.

Can domestic AC be used in winter?

Most fixed AC systems we install have AC heating mode, which gives useful air-to-air warmth from the indoor unit. It is not a wet central-heating replacement, but it can be very effective in individual rooms.

Do I need AC in every room?

Not always. Many homes start with the worst bedroom, loft or conservatory. If several rooms are uncomfortable, a multi-split design gives better control than trying to cool the whole upstairs from one landing unit.

How much does domestic air conditioning installation usually cost?

The guide price depends on room size, output, pipe route, outdoor-unit position, electrics and finish. A straightforward bedroom or standard room install usually starts from GBP 1,950, conservatories and larger open-plan rooms usually start from GBP 2,450, and two-room multi-split work usually starts from GBP 3,800.

Do you install wet heat pump systems?

No. We install fixed air conditioning systems. Many AC units can provide useful air-to-air heating mode from the indoor unit, but we do not install wet central-heating heat pumps, radiators, cylinders or underfloor heating systems.
