Ducted air conditioning for concealed comfort and cleaner interiors

Ducted AC hides the indoor unit and supplies air through grilles. It can look excellent, but only when the ceiling void, duct routes and access are planned properly.

Overview

Practical ducted air conditioning, specified around the room.

Ducted AC is often requested when customers do not want visible wall units. The challenge is that many UK homes were not built with spare ceiling voids or duct routes in mind.

We specify ducted AC for premium homes, open-plan renovations, bedrooms, hospitality rooms, offices and commercial interiors where visible units are not the preferred finish.

The survey checks ceiling voids, loft access, grille positions, duct length, return air, condensate, service panels and whether the project is at the right build stage.

Specification

The details that decide whether the installation works properly.

Ceiling void and access

A concealed unit still needs access for filters, drains and future servicing. No access panel means future maintenance becomes a problem.

Supply and return air

Ducted systems need planned supply grilles and return air paths. Poor return air can make the system noisy or ineffective.

Build stage

Ducted AC is much easier during renovation or before ceilings are closed. Retrofitting can be possible but needs careful survey.

Air balance

Duct runs, grille sizes and room zoning affect how evenly the system performs across the space.

Typical jobs

Common installation patterns we plan for.

These are typology notes rather than claimed job records: they show the kind of practical thinking used before we recommend a system.

Open-plan kitchen extension

Ducted AC can work well if the ceiling void and grille positions are designed before plasterboard is complete.

Principal bedroom suite

A concealed unit can serve a bedroom and dressing area where visible wall units would spoil the finish.

Restaurant or hospitality room

Grilles can provide a cleaner look, but return air, access panels and noise control need proper design.

Quote guidance

What decides whether the fixed quote can proceed.

The quote route starts with postcode coverage, then checks the room, access, outdoor-unit position, electrics and installation route. Straightforward single-split systems can go through the fixed-price builder; complex rooms, commercial spaces and multi-room work may need a survey before the final scope is confirmed.

  • Ceiling void size, access panels and duct route.
  • Number and position of supply grilles.
  • Return air path and noise control.
  • Build stage and whether ceilings are already finished.
  • Commissioning, balancing and maintenance access.

Benefits

What customers usually want from this installation.

Reliable cooling

Bring the room back under control during warm weather, busy trading periods or high internal heat loads.

AC heating mode

Use the same fixed AC system for useful air-to-air heating when the weather turns colder. We do not install wet central-heating systems.

Neat installation

Plan the indoor unit, outdoor unit, pipe route and condensate route before installation starts.

Long-term efficiency

Choose inverter technology, good controls and routine maintenance to keep performance strong.

FAQs

Questions customers ask before they book.

Is ducted AC common in UK homes?

It is less common than wall-mounted systems because many UK homes lack the ceiling or wall voids needed for ducts. It works best when planned during renovation.

Can ducted AC serve several rooms?

Yes in the right design, but zoning and airflow need careful planning. It is not simply one hidden unit blowing into every room.

Does ducted AC need maintenance access?

Yes. The hidden indoor unit, filters, drain and controls must remain accessible for service and repair.

How much does ducted air conditioning usually cost?

The guide price depends on room size, output, pipe route, outdoor-unit position, electrics and finish. A straightforward bedroom or standard room install usually starts from GBP 1,950, conservatories and larger open-plan rooms usually start from GBP 2,450, and two-room multi-split work usually starts from GBP 3,800.

Do you install wet heat pump systems?

No. We install fixed air conditioning systems. Many AC units can provide useful air-to-air heating mode from the indoor unit, but we do not install wet central-heating heat pumps, radiators, cylinders or underfloor heating systems.
