Critical cooling

Server room air conditioning for dedicated IT cooling

Server room cooling is not comfort cooling. We specify around continuous heat load, reliability, drainage safety and service access.

Overview

Practical server room air conditioning, specified around the room.

Servers, switches, UPS equipment and comms racks create heat all day and night. A normal office AC system may not protect the room if it is controlled around staff comfort.

We install dedicated cooling for server rooms, comms rooms, IT cupboards, network rooms, equipment rooms and small technical spaces.

The quote checks equipment heat output, redundancy needs, duty cycle, airflow around racks, condensate safety, alarms, power, service access and whether the room needs 24/7 operation.

Specification

The details that decide whether the installation works properly.

Heat load from equipment

Cooling is based on the equipment load, not the floor area. Racks, UPS units and switches all add heat.

Continuous duty

Server rooms may need cooling in winter and overnight. The system must suit longer run hours than a comfort room.

Condensate safety

Water management matters near IT equipment. Drain routes and pumps need to be planned carefully.

Service and resilience

Maintenance access, alarms and whether duty standby is needed should be considered before installation.

Typical jobs

Common installation patterns we plan for.

These are typology notes rather than claimed job records: they show the kind of practical thinking used before we recommend a system.

Small comms room

A dedicated wall unit can protect network equipment if heat load, drain route and airflow are checked.

Rack room in an office

May need separation from staff comfort cooling because equipment runs outside office hours.

IT cupboard

Small spaces can overheat quickly. Ventilation, airflow and condensate safety must be checked before fitting AC.

Quote guidance

What decides whether the fixed quote can proceed.

The quote route starts with postcode coverage, then checks the room, access, outdoor-unit position, electrics and installation route. Straightforward single-split systems can go through the fixed-price builder; complex rooms, commercial spaces and multi-room work may need a survey before the final scope is confirmed.

  • Equipment heat output and future rack growth.
  • Continuous operation and low-ambient requirements.
  • Drainage, condensate pump and water risk.
  • Monitoring, alarms and redundancy requirements.
  • Service access and maintenance frequency.

Benefits

What customers usually want from this installation.

Reliable cooling

Bring the room back under control during warm weather, busy trading periods or high internal heat loads.

AC heating mode

Use the same fixed AC system for useful air-to-air heating when the weather turns colder. We do not install wet central-heating systems.

Neat installation

Plan the indoor unit, outdoor unit, pipe route and condensate route before installation starts.

Long-term efficiency

Choose inverter technology, good controls and routine maintenance to keep performance strong.

FAQs

Questions customers ask before they book.

Can a normal office AC unit cool a server room?

Sometimes, but it must be specified around continuous equipment heat, not staff comfort. Controls and operating range are important.

Do server rooms need backup cooling?

Some do. If downtime risk is high, duty standby or redundancy should be discussed during design.

Can you cool a small comms cupboard?

Often yes, but space, airflow and condensate safety need careful survey because small rooms can overheat rapidly.

How much does server room air conditioning usually cost?

The guide price depends on room size, output, pipe route, outdoor-unit position, electrics and finish. A straightforward bedroom or standard room install usually starts from GBP 1,950, conservatories and larger open-plan rooms usually start from GBP 2,450, and two-room multi-split work usually starts from GBP 3,800.

Do you install wet heat pump systems?

No. We install fixed air conditioning systems. Many AC units can provide useful air-to-air heating mode from the indoor unit, but we do not install wet central-heating heat pumps, radiators, cylinders or underfloor heating systems.
